FA CUP FINAL INTERVIEWS: CARLA CAMACHO

SheGulls were invited down to the Elite Performance Centre last week to speak with some of our players about the Adobe Women’s FA Cup Final. In this edition Spanish forward Carla Camacho gives us the her thoughts ahead of this incredible event:

DUNCAN PRICE: As a young player progressing through the age groups at Real Madrid, did you ever think you’d come to England and play in an FA Cup final at Wembley?

CARLA CAMACHO: I was literally thinking about this yesterday because it’s quite exciting. When I left Madrid, I couldn’t imagine playing this exciting game. So, yeah, like in my dreams, it hasn’t been a thing until now.

DP: The FA Cup wasn’t necessarily something you were familiar with growing up, but obviously the Copa del Rey and Copa de la Reina were. Were cup competitions always important in football for you?

CC: Yeah always. I look at every competition as an opportunity to win, to enjoy, and of course to play. When I arrived here you come not knowing everything, but being with the girls, the staff, seeing the environment around the FA Cup is something else. It’s such a special competition. So we are looking forward to winning.

DP: You’re one of the younger players in the squad. How important is it to have a mixture of youth and experience in a team?

CC: I always say it’s so nice because they are like examples to follow, and we have people like Fran (Kirby), for example, and Jele (Jelena Cankovic) who can teach us from their experience, and it’s so positive for everyone. For the young ones, we have even more to learn and they are always there to help.

DP: You always seem very positive. Will there be nerves before the final or are you quietly confident?

CC: I think I play better when I’m happy, when I’m enjoying the moments, so I think I will keep doing that. Of course, we will have nerves before the ref blows the whistle, but it’s gonna be fine and I’m just gonna enjoy it.

DP: Will you do anything differently for this game compared to any other game, or is it always the same preparation?

CC: We have two weeks now to prepare as a team, but in the individual part, I will do the same, and this time I have the support of my family. So that’s the only thing different, that they will be here. So I’m so happy for that.

We want to thank Carla and the club for their time and assistance.

Now let’s go and win the FA Cup on Sunday! Up the Albion!
