As some of you may know I have cup games off from analysis duties so that I can enjoy these matches solely as a fan. Well that didn’t work out quite so well yesterday afternoon as, truthfully, there wasn’t much to enjoy. On what was a blustery overcast day, the weather seemed to seep into the players’ mentality leading to a rather drab goalless draw which Leicester arguably deserved to win.

In a quirk of League Cup rules, if the match ends a draw, both teams receive a point – but a bonus point is awarded to the winner of a penalty shoot-out held immediately after the game. Unfortunately after going 3-2 up following a fine Melina Loeck save, misses from Michelle Agyemang and Maisie Symonds ultimately meant Leicester came away with the extra point.
Dario Vidosic was pretty scathing in his post-match press conference, but as a fan I like that, we have high standards, didn’t come anywhere near them, and you can’t beat around the bush talking in riddles and meaningless platitudes all the time.
