WELCOME TO SHEGULLS!

Don’t panic if you already knew we were here – thank you as ever for your ongoing support! However, some of you may have landed on the website courtesy of our appearance in the Official Brighton & Hove Albion Women’s Team program on the weekend or our appearance at the Broadfield Fanzone – if so – welcome!

That is a really good overview of what we do here at SheGulls. I should know because I founded the organisation in August 2023 and wrote that synopsis – go me right!

In search of Albion women’s team content that summer, I quickly identified that there was no formal ‘official’ supporters club for the Albion women’s team, although many other BHAFC supporters’ groups do retain an interest in the women’s game. So I started with a free website, WordPress subdomain and everything, covering the matches from the perspective of a fan as well as relaying news as best I could. Rather quickly I realised to continue to improve our reach, we needed to make it as simple to find us as possible, and thus SheGulls.com was born.

We grew from those early seedlings and put down roots by aligning with the Football Supporters’ Association, becoming ‘official’ with the club, and starting to develop additional original content such as our podcast – now on its 25th episode! We even held a SheGulls-branded speaking event in co-operation with the Brighton & Hove Albion Foundation and Women in Sport which raised over £300 for charity.

I never set out with the goal of developing a supporters’ club, my passion was, and still is, media and the written word, but sometimes to achieve a larger goal you have to adapt. Our media arm is still a very important part of SheGulls and we continue to try and develop our relationship and trust with that side of the football club. Last season we were allowed to begin attending press conferences, and this season we have been permitted to take part, a big achievement for a non-traditional outlet.

There are lots of other irons in the fire, potential projects and plans in motion, so we hope you’ll join our community and we can experience them all together. The team and our fellow fans deserve our support, if SheGulls can be a conduit for that – then long may we continue!

See you soon,

Duncan x
