Match Result: Brighton 0-4 Manchester Utd (FA Cup QF)

As many of you know, I don’t have the capacity to write full recaps of cup games, and in this case I am truly glad I don’t have to. We were outplayed whistle to whistle on Saturday night and it would have been a serious challenge to come up with some positives to take from the game – other than, I guess – it could have been 10-0.

And so for the details of the game I will leave you in the capable hands of Bruce Talbot and the Albion’s official match report.

Notes

  • I felt like we’d be bang up for this tie given the fact we’ve played fairly well against United this season. Instead of coming out with momentum following our 7-3 win last weekend though, we looked like a team who had sighed with such relief after such a crucial game that we let all the wind out of our sails.
  • Some may disagree, but I felt like the fans desperately wanted something to cheer, chant or sing for on Saturday night. Unfortunately going a goal down in the 8th minute, two down in the 17th and three down at half-time, just didn’t give us anything to work with. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, stadium atmosphere gains life from what happens on the pitch, if the game is dead, the atmosphere is too.
  • Sussex by the Sea got spoken over AGAIN. I *think* they tried to have some semblance of a pre-kickoff ‘fight’ song for want of a better phrase, but got about 3 seconds into ‘Eye of the Tiger’ (nothing to do with Brighton) – before they had to stop because the game kicked off. Embarrassing to be honest.
  • Even Mikey in his post-match interview with his relentlessly positive outlook, struggled to come up with anything that could be taken from the game.
  • I was at the men’s game on Sunday against Nottingham Forest and the women’s team did get a shout out for their aforementioned 7-3 victory, but funnily enough there was absolutely nothing said about the 4-0 loss the night before. Almost like they didn’t want to mention it…

Another podcast recording tonight, out tomorrow – and normal recap service will be resumed after our game against Manchester City on Sunday.
