Match Result: Wolves 1-4 Brighton

Sticking with the knockout theme this week, Brighton traveled to the New Bucks Head on Sunday afternoon to take on Wolves Women in The Adobe Women’s FA Cup.

As this was a cup game, please do read the official club match report – written by Bruce Talbot – for a full recap of events. I’d also like to commend Bruce for being honest about some of the struggles Albion had in the match – it’s refreshing to see such candour on any club-run media channel.

The draw for the quarter-finals will be made live on ‘The One Show’ BBC1 @ approximately 7.20pm on Monday 12th February.

Notes

  • How could I start with anything other than hat-trick hero Emma Kullberg. To put her goalscoring exploits in context, Kully has never scored for Brighton before (53 games) and her last goal in all competitions came in the Damallsvenskan against Kristianstad for BK Hacken in 2021.
  • The scoreline flattered the Albion. In honesty, the game was relatively even and Wolves created a couple of chances of their own. We did dominate possession, but that should be expected taking on a team two divisions below and the ‘club style’ Mikey Harris is developing. The fact it was 1-1 after 87 minutes is a far more accurate representation of the way the game played out.
  • I was impressed by Wolves, They may have one or two players that WSL or certainly Championship teams might take a second look at this summer.
  • There was definitely a slight hangover from Wednesday night, particularly in the intensity of the play. Vicky Losada replaced Julia Zigiotti Olme at half time in what I assume was a planned change to give them 45 minutes each, so I suspect Vicky was very happy not to have to play another 30 minutes extra time on top.
  • Nice to see Katie Robinson back on the scoresheet. More to come I hope!
  • After a hard week and three games, Mikey Harris will be glad to get a full week of training under his belt before the WSL tie with Liverpool.
